Moraira

Where is Moraira?

Moraira is a small, well-kept seaside town on the northern Costa Blanca, between the airports of Alicante and Valencia.

The former fishing village has no high-rise blocks and combines a compact centre, a marina, good restaurants and 8 kilometres of coast.

Beaches

The beaches: El Portet, L'Ampolla and Les Platgetes

Villa Renate and Villa Catherina are 400 metres from El Portet beach. Villa Floris is 700 metres from El Portet and from the beach in the centre.

  • El Portet: Moraira's best-known sheltered bay. You can hire a kayak or a SUP here, and there are guided trips to Cala Llebeig.
  • L'Ampolla: the big, child-friendly sandy beach.
  • Les Platgetes: ideal for snorkelling.
  • L'Andragó and Cap Blanc: good for swimming and snorkelling too.
Things to do

Things to do in Moraira

Enjoy the small centre with its many restaurants and little shops. Wander through the centre, past the fishing harbour and the marina, to the eighteenth-century Castillo de Moraira.

Visit El Portet and then walk up to the watchtower of Cap d'Or: a short but sometimes steep route with views over the bay. Or follow the coast on foot to Moraira.

Market and food

The market and eating out

Every Friday there is a market in Moraira, from 8 am to 2 pm.

Try the local rice dishes, fish, fideuà and moscatel wine from the surrounding valleys.

Walking and cycling

Walking and cycling

There are hundreds of walking routes, for young and old and for experienced and less experienced walkers. A few examples: Cap d'Or, the Cumbre del Sol, the Sierra de Bèrnia, the Peñón de Ifach, the Montgó and the Barranc de l'Infern.

Cyclists find coast roads and quiet back roads in the hilly hinterland, towards Benissa, Xaló and the Coll de Rates.
